STUDY SERIES: Erroneously understood verses to teach Yeshua is God

1 JOHN 5:20 - THE SON INTRODUCED THE TRUE GOD

(1 John 5:20 NKJV)

20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

ERRONEOUS UNDERSTANDING

Adherents to the Trinitarian doctrine, as well all others who believe that The Son of God is also God himself, wrongly understood this verse to point to The Christ Yeshua as the One referred as 'the true God and eternal life'. How do they misunderstood this verse? They conclude that because the name of The Son is closest to the phrase just quoted above then it must be Him who is referred by the succeeding sentence. This is a classic error based on simple semantics and word placement that warrants a more in-depth study and analysis.

IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS

In 1 John 5v20, Apostle John did not present The Messiah to be the true God. He simply presented one of God's Son's very important task that He very well accomplished during His deployment to the world - that is, to give an understanding and knowledge about the true God. Why did God choose His Son to take on this task of introducing Him to the world? It is because The Almighty God chose His Son to be the One who will convert people to become witnesses of Him, the people who will know and believe in Him being THE ONLY GOD ever since as prophesied:

(Isaiah 43:10)

10 “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord,

“And My servant whom I have chosen,

That you may know and believe Me,

And understand that I am He.

Before Me there was no God formed,

Nor shall there be after Me.

Fact is, The Lord God desires people to understand and know Him:

(Jeremiah 9:23-24)

23 Thus says the Lord:

“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,

Let not the mighty man glory in his might,

Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;

24 But let him who glories glory in this,

That he understands and knows Me,

That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth.

For in these I delight,” says the Lord.

It is the delight of The Lord God that people understand and know Him! For this reason, The Son was deployed to the world not only to preach the gospel but also to introduce the true God whom people should believe in and worship:

(John 5:24)

24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

Believing in Him who sent The Christ or Messiah equates to having received everlasting life. Is there anything else more important to receive than this? Of course, there is none. Was The Savior successful in introducing the true God unto the world? Yes He was. As testified by John, “the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding” - that is understanding of the true God.

The big question is – WHO IS THE ONLY TRUE GOD INTRODUCED BY THE SON OF GOD?

(John 17:1, 3)

17 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You… 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

The Lord Yeshua has introduced The Father to be the only true God! He did not claim to be the true God himself. Neither did He claim to be a person of The True God, nor did He introduce the trinity to be the true God. How important is it to understand and know that ONLY The Father is the true God? The Lord Yeshua stated, “this is eternal life, that they may know You, THE ONLY TRUE GOD” (John 17:3a, emphasis mine).

Do you want eternal life? Believe in Christ’s teaching about The Father as the only true God and reject immediately the teaching of the trinity and the teaching that The Christ Yeshua is also God, for these are the doctrines that remove man from the promised eternal life!

(John 8:32)

". .. the truth shall make you free.”
