(Daniel 9:24-27, Complete Jewish Bible)

24 “Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and for your holy city for putting an end to the transgression, for making an end of sin, for forgiving iniquity, for bringing in everlasting justice, for setting the seal on vision and prophet, and for anointing the Especially Holy Place. 25 Know, therefore, and discern that seven weeks [of years] will elapse between the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Yerushalayim until an anointed prince comes. It will remain built for sixty-two weeks [of years], with open spaces and moats; but these will be troubled times. 26 Then, after the sixty-two weeks, Mashiach will be cut off and have nothing. The people of a prince yet to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary, but his end will come with a flood, and desolations are decreed until the war is over. 27 He will make a strong covenant with leaders for one week [of years]. For half of the week he will put a stop to the sacrifice and the grain offering. On the wing of detestable things the desolator will come and continue until the already decreed destruction is poured out on the desolator.”

Here are the major time frames as mentioned in the prophecy:

  • First, is the 70 weeks given for the people and the holy city to finish the transgression and sinning before God, to make reconciliation and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up VISION AND PROPHECY, and for anointing the ESPECIALLY HOLY PLACE (verse 24)

  • Second, is the 7 weeks  between the command or decree to restore and build Jerusalem UNTIL AN ANOINTED PRINCE COMES (verse 25)

  • Third, is the 62 weeks when the Especially Holy Place will remain built. After that time frame of 62 weeks, the Maschiach will be cut off and have nothing.

What is represented by each week in the prophecy?

(Ezekiel 4:6)

6 And when you have completed them, lie again on your right side; then you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days. I have laid on you a day for each year.

Granted that the prophecy of Daniel experienced the same spirit of prophecy as with God's instruction to the prophet Ezekiel, the calculation for each day as given by God is 1 year. If so, then:

70 weeks x 7 = 490 days (or years) / 7 weeks x 7 = 49 days (or years) / 62 weeks x 7 = 434 days (or years)

Now, let us find:

When was the beginning of the 490 years (70 weeks) of God's grace period to Israel to reconcile back with God and to seal up the VISION and PROPHECY and anoint or rebuilt the Holy Place or Temple? This can be safely pinpointed to the time when Ezra commenced the REBUILDING of the Holy Place or Temple in 457 BCE. Add 490 years and it will bring you to the year 33 AD, the year when The Savior Yeshua was sacrificed on the cross for the people's RECONCILIATION with God that brought EVERLASTING RIGHTEOUSNESS (Isa. 42:6). This is an event that undoubtedly SEALED OR FULFILLED THE VISION AND PROPHECY!

How about the 49 years (7 weeks) that started when the decree to restore and build Jerusalem and lasted until an anointed prince comes? When is this time frame and who are the entities mentioned? It will be a safe assumption that the start of this time frame refers to the Second Decree to rebuild the Holy Temple by Darius in 520 BCE since he funded the rebuilding and ensured its completion around 516 BCE, and ended in the reign of Ahasueros (Xerxes), the king of Persia who saved the lives of the Jews by allowing them to arm and defend themselves from his previous royal decree that ordered the annihilation of all the Jews in his kingdom. No other king or individual has saved as many Jews as he had. If so, he must be the prophesied 'anointed prince' who will come at the end of the 49 years (must be around 71 BCE).

How about the 434 years (62 weeks)? When is this time frame and who is the prophesied 'mashiach or messiah who will be cut-off and will have nothing'? This must point to the killing of the last Hasmonean king Antigonus Matathias in 37 BCE. It must be understood that the Hasmonean dynasty claimed to be the line of messiahs
