STUDY SERIES: Erroneously understood verses to teach Yeshua is God
ISAIAH 9:6 - THE SON IS NOT THE 'MIGHTY GOD'
6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Proponents of the JESUS (YESHUA) IS GOD theologies hastily draw a generalization that God's Son is ALSO GOD in such that one of the callings or titles of His name is that of Mighty God. At a quick glance it would seem to be the case, but not after one carefully studies this verse. How so? It is because to accept God's Son to be The Mighty God is to also accept Him to be The Everlasting Father, a concept that would surely go against scriptural facts and teachings. How should this prophecy of Isaiah be understood without having to contradict any scriptural truth about The Father being the ONLY true God (Jn. 17:1, 3/ Ps. 86:10)?
This prophecy of Isaiah spoke about The Son of God being the Child given to Israel whose primary mission is to restore the preserved ones of Israel, and to be a light to the Gentiles for salvation (Isaiah 49:6 / 42:6). Which is the government placed on His shoulder? The Lord Yeshua said that “all authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18) – this is the authority or government of God that warrants His reign as King of kings on earth and in heaven (Revelation 19:15-16 / 5:9-10 / 22:5). The reign of Christ with the government or authority of God is the Kingdom of God.
Whose name will be called 'Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace'? It cannot be The Son’s name simply because of the sub-title Everlasting Father, and we know very well that The Son is NOT The Father. Neither can it be the name of The Father because He is not a Prince (of Peace), nor is He The Son prophesied in this prophecy.
The CLUSTER OF TITLES that is 'Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace' will be called unto the NEW NAME of Christ that reflects the INTEGRATION of God’s government and His eternal rule, that is, the Kingdom of God. The Prophet Isaiah proved the integrity of this understanding:
(Isaiah 62:2, 12)
The Gentiles shall see your righteousness,
And all kings your glory.
You shall be called by a new name,
Which the mouth of the Lord will name…
12 And they shall call them The Holy People,
The Redeemed of the Lord;
And you shall be called Sought Out,
A City Not Forsaken.
The name with multiple titles in Isaiah 9:6 is the NEW NAME that will be called to those who are Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken. They are the people to be ruled by Christ in God’s Kingdom in heaven or the Holy City. Apostle John confirmed this new name that will be given to those who are Sought Out in the Holy City, the New Jerusalem in heaven:
12 He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.
It will be written on the foreheads on those who will make it there:
4 They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads.
This is the new name that only those given will ever know:
17 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”’
YESHUA IS NOT THE MIGHTY GOD IN ISAIAH 9:6
Once again, the name that will hold the title of - 'Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace' – will be the NEW NAME of Christ that will reflect the integration of God’s government and His eternal rule in the New Jerusalem being the ultimate manifestation of the Kingdom of God in heaven. This is not the name ‘Yeshua’, neither ‘Christ’ nor ‘Immanuel’ since no one has yet received it, and only those who will receive it in the Holy City will ever know it.
The mention of ‘Mighty God’ cannot refer to The Lord Yeshua-Christos as an individual entity since it is only a sub-title that is part of one corporation of titles. If one insists on calling Christ as the Mighty God in Isaiah 9:6, then he will be forced to also call The Savior as the ‘Everlasting Father’, something that will truly go against both evangelical and logical truths. The fact remains that it is The Son who came to introduce The Father as the ONLY TRUE GOD (1 Jn. 5:20 / Jn. 17:1-3). In contrast with this incorrect understanding of Isaiah 9v6 that leads to a duplicity of Gods which will surely go against one of his prophecies that sealed the zero possibility of having another God aside from The Almighty Father:
10 “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.
