Eternal Life Series, Lesson 1

(John 17:1-3)

1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Do you believe in the true God as one Entity or as the Trinity? Do you believe Him to be the same Supreme Spirit who plays the role of The Father, of The Son Yeshua-Christos and of the Holy Spirit depending on one’s need as taught by the Oneness Theology? You might ask why is it important on what to believe about God. The answer is because The Christ guarantees salvation unto those who possess the truth about the true God. In fact, it is even more important to The Almighty God that we know and understand who He truly is:

(Jeremiah 9:23-24, NKJV in all verse unless otherwise noted, emphasis ours)

23 Thus says the Lord:

“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
24 But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.

The Lord God wants people to possess the true understanding and knowledge about Him. This desire of God that people understand and know Him invalidates the teaching about Him that is supposed to be a mystery, or the doctrine of Trinity. What is the doctrine of Trinity? That supposedly there are three persons of God – God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit. And the biggest mystery is that these three, altogether, are one. How un-truthful this doctrine is which is believed by both the Catholic and Protestant churches. On the other side is the teaching of the Oneness Theology that somehow The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit is the same Supreme Spirit who simply plays the different roles as needed individually by man. That apparently, He is The Father to those who need blessings and guidance, The Son to those who need salvation, and the Holy Spirit to those who need enlightenment. This means that He is both the three personalities at any given time because of men’s varied need of God. How will this confusion compare with the understanding and truth of The Lord Yeshua-Christos?

Who is the true God introduced by God's Son Yeshua-Christos? And how important is it to know Him as the only true God? Let us learn from our Savior, the only authority when it comes to knowing God:

(John 17:1, 3)

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You… 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

The Lord Yeshua taught that The Father is the ONLY true God. He did not teach about Himself nor point to The Holy Spirit as being Gods. That people may know about The Father as the only true God is of highest importance according to The Christ, and why is that? Because The Christ emphasized, “THIS IS ETERNAL LIFE”!

Once again, the truthfulness of the Trinitarian and Oneness doctrines about God is belied by none other than The Savior Himself. Who best to teach about God than The Son of God Himself? At this point, we have to make a DECISION on who to recognize as the true God – either The Father alone according to The Christ, or the Trinitarian and Oneness god, as well as the many other gods taught by other religions? WHO DO YOU CHOOSE? We just have to choose the obvious!

Let us continue with our study about the true God. What is His state of being? The Lord Yeshua describes the nature of God:

(John 4:24)

24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

God is Spirit according to Christ. If He is Spirit in being, then what is He not?

(Numbers 23:19)

19 “God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

The Almighty God, being a Spirit, means that He is not a man. In contrast with this truth about God, many people think that although He is Spirit, He also could change into being a man – this is what made majority of Christians to believe that The Lord Yeshua-Christos changed from being God to man and back to being God again in heaven. Is that true about God? What does God guarantee about Himself to include His state of being?

(Psalm 10:24, 27)

24 I said, “O my God,
Do not take me away in the midst of my days;
Your years are throughout all generations…
27 But You are the same,
And Your years will have no end.

(Malachi 3:6)

6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

According to King David, God is the same. And this is confirmed by God Himself when He declared that He does not change - meaning, whatever He was in the beginning so is He at present time. Who are we to change God when He Himself does not want to?

Therefore, let us reject now the blasphemous teaching that God changed into a man, carried in the womb and born by a human being. Even much more of a blasphemy is to believe that God ever died, as upheld by most of the world’s Christians since the beginning of the 4th century.

What makes God different from all other beings - may it be the angels, the devil or men? Only The Lord God possesses the attributes of being:

Almighty or Omnipotent

(Job 11:7)

7 “Can you search out the deep things of God?
Can you find out the limits of the Almighty?

Presence Anywhere or Omnipresent

(Jeremiah 23:23-24)

23 “Am I a God near at hand,” says the Lord,
“And not a God afar off?
24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places,
So I shall not see him?” says the Lord;
“Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord.

All-Knowing or Omniscient

(Isaiah 46:10)

10 Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things that are not yet done,
Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
And I will do all My pleasure...’

The Only Creator

(Isaiah 42:5)

5 Thus says God the Lord,
Who created the heavens and stretched them out,
Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it,
Who gives breath to the people on it,
And spirit to those who walk on it...

God is the only One who has not changed

6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

(Read also Ps. 86:10 and Js. 1:17)

Anyone who is recognized by people as god but does not possess all of God’s attributes could not be the true God, and therefore should be rejected!

To recapitulate, there is only one true God introduced by The Christ Yeshua. The one true God is spirit in nature and not man, and did not plan on ever changing His state of being. Only the one true God possesses the attributes of being Almighty or Omnipotent, Anywhere Presence or Omnipresent, All-Knowing or Omniscient and of course, He is the only Creator. The one and only true God taught and worshiped by The Lord Yeshua-Christos is none other than His Father, our Father in heaven. Believing in this truth guarantees one not just salvation from God’s punishment in the lake of fire but most importantly eternal life in the kingdom of heaven. But how can one get to understand God, given all the misleading 'Theologies' of the world? One can only come to an understanding about God when he or she sincerely seeks Him. In fact, God, The Almighty Creator Himself looks down from heaven to see who are they who truly seek Him:

(Psalm 14:2)

2 The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
