(Revelation 7:2-3)

2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3 saying, "Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads."

The religious group Iglesia Ni Cristo (1914) claim that the other Angel mention in verse 2 was fulfilled in the life and ministry of their founding elder, the late Felix Y. Manalo. They also claim that the four winds that have the power to destroy the world point to the First World War that was put to an end by the four angels whom they teach to be the Council of Four - UK's David Lloyd George, Italy's Vittorio Emanuelle Orlando, France's Georges Clemenceau and USA's Woodrow Wilson.

In this article, we shall present how this specific vision of John in Revelation 7v2-3 points to The Savior Yeshua and His work. In the discourse of this presentation we shall also disprove the multiple erroneous claim of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (1914) cited above.

The biggest reason the majority cannot accept our presentation of the apocalyptical 'other Angel' to be The Savior Yeshua himself is due to their misaligned understanding of the biblical term 'angel'. When one thinks of an angel he/she will readily imagine a celestial being in human form and usually with a pair of wings - spiritual creatures surrounding and glorifying God in heaven.

We are not saying that they are wrong in their mental picture of angels. After all, there are scriptural texts that support these perspectives. However, that is not the definitive description of the term. The word angel in Hebrew is 'malak' while in Greek it is 'aggelos' and they both mean MESSENGER.

As the scriptures in the Old Testament "are they which testify of Me" according to The Christ Yeshua (Jn. 5:39) in such that they are filled with prophecies that point to him as God's Messenger, Chosen Servant, Prophet or Son of Man. One overlooked prophecy of Isaiah points to him as the Angel of God's Presence:

(Isaiah 63:8-9)

8 For He said, “Surely they are My people,
Children who will not lie.”
So He became their Savior.
9 In all their affliction He was afflicted,
And the Angel of His Presence saved them;
In His love and in His pity He redeemed them;
And He bore them and carried them
All the days of old.

This Isaiah prophecy spoke how God is the Savior of His people through an Angel - the Angel of His Presence. This prophesied Angel of God’s Presence will save God’s people out of His love and pity.

How could this Angel be The Savior Yeshua?

(Jn 14:8-9)

8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

The statement of The Christ Jesus explains the prophecy when He said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father”! That The Christ Jesus is the prophesied Angel of God’s Presence is simply because He is the visible representation of the invisible God. How else could He be the Angel of God’s Presence?

The Angel of God's Presence could not be anyone else but God's own Son. How so? Through Him, the invisible God The Father can be seen! How does the status of The Savior of being an Angel or Messenger differ from all other angels or messengers, may they be celestial or terrestrial? It is only Him who fully represents God and His Divine Will.  In what way?

What did God vest unto His Son that legitimately made Him His legal representative, or Angel of His Presence?

(John 6:27b)

27 … which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

God has vested unto His Son His very own SEAL. And only The Lord Yeshua possesses the SEAL of The Living God!

What is The Seal of God given unto His Son?

(Isaiah 9:6)

6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

In Isaiah's prophecy, The Son of God is entrusted the Government or Rule of God - THIS IS THE SEAL OF GOD! How is this prophecy fulfilled in The Messiah?

(Matthew 28:18)

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

The Government (or Rule) or Seal of God is His Authority that He vested unto His Son! Some people may argue concerning our understanding on God's Seal being that of His Authority, however what makes us certain on the validity of our understanding on this subject?

In the olden days, what does the seal of one who is of higher standing reveal or present?

(Esther 8:8)

8 You yourselves write a decreeconcerning the Jews, as you please, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s signet ring; for whatever is written in the king’s name and sealed with the king’s signet ring no one can revoke."

In ancient biblical period, due to a lack of methods and efficient ways of communication, the king's signet ring is used to seal any of his royal orders. By virtue of commission, anyone with the seal of the king has the king's official business and AUTHORITY being his official representative - and so everyone should take him with their highest regard. The same is true with God's Seal that He Himself set on His Son.

What is the divine purpose God gave His Authority to His Son, the very same Angel of His Presence?

(Isaiah 49:6)

6 Indeed He says,
‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant
To raise up the tribes of Jacob,
And to restore the preserved ones of Israel;
I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles,
That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’”

(John 5:22, 26-29)

22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son... 26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, 27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

By virtue of God's Authority, The Lord Yeshua has been made GOD'S SALVATION (also Isa. 63:8-9) who will ALSO EXECUTE JUDGMENT (being God's Counsel-Isa.46:11) on behalf of God. Therefore, the ACT OF SEALING in Revelation 7:2-3 is simply a figurative representation of His disposition of God's Authority that gives distinction between those who are saved from those who are judged.

Who is with The Messiah in His work of sealing? They are His disciples whom He commissioned to make other disciples from all nations until the end (Mat. 28v18-20) so that His Gospel will be preached in all the world (Mat. 24v14).

Who else was seen by John in His vision who will be with The Christ  in His task of sealing?

(Revelation 7:1)

After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree.

Apostle John also saw FOUR ANGELS who stand at the four corners of the earth, as well as FOUR WINDS that can 'BLOW' or cause destruction unto the world.

Who are represented by the Four Angels as well as the Four Winds?

(Matthew 13:39-40)

39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.

(Matthew 24:30-31)

30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The four angels holding the four winds seen by John in this particular vision represents the angels who will serve as REAPERS (Matthew 13:39) and GATHERERS (Matthew 24:31). They are The Savior's reapers "at the end of this age".

What about the FOUR WINDS where God's elect will be saved from? Even the prophecy of Isaiah already mentioned about the wind involve during the harvesting at the end of the age.

(Isaiah 41:15-16)

15 “Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth;
You shall thresh the mountains and beat them small,
And make the hills like chaff.
16 You shall winnow them, the wind shall carry them away,
And the whirlwind shall scatter them;
You shall rejoice in the Lord,
And glory in the Holy One of Israel.

The Christ Yeshua was prophesied to be the One who shall harvest as He was likened to a threshing sledge with sharp teeth (a harvesting instrument). As the thresher is designed to separate the grains from the stalks, so shall The Savior separate God's servants from the rest of the world. He will be the One who 'shall winnow them' (Luke 3:17) so that the WIND shall carry them away. The WIND and the WHIRLWIND in the prophecy of Isaiah is the same FOUR WINDS in Revelation 7v2. It has the power to scatter the chaff or destroy those who are winnowed away.

Which has the power to judge?

(John 12:48)

48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

The destructive wind in both prophesies of Isaiah and John simply refers to the Word of God's Son that will judge the world coming from all directions.

At this point, we have established the following as evangelical facts:

1. That The Savior Yeshua-Christos is the ANGEL OF GOD'S PRESENCE whom God personally vested His own Seal.

2. That The Seal of God is His GOVERNMENT and AUTHORITY to save His servants and to judge the world.

3. That the act of SEALING gives the distinction of those saved from those who are not.

4. That the other agents who will assist The Savior are His disciples as well as His spiritual angels who shall be the reapers and gatherers on Judgment Day.

Based on these evangelical facts we can safely conclude that the Angel who possesses the Seal of The Living God seen by John in His vision in Revelation 7:2-3 is none other than The Savior Yeshua.

How about the fact that the other Angel in Revelation 7:2 ascends from the east? Is this also true about The Christ?

When would be the appointed time when He is coming from the east?

(Matthew 24:27)

27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Based on this pronouncement of The Lord Yeshua, He will be coming from the east on His second coming - in the same way that 'the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west'.

What further proves that the envisioned Angel with God's Seal is The Messiah and no one else? John has seen the final number of those who are sealed or saved from the children of Israel:

(Revelation 7:4)

4 And I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed…

The fact that the FINAL NUMBER of the SEALED children of Israel was already seen by John in the vision only shows the CLOSURE of The Lord's work of salvation. How many among the children of Israel were sealed? ONE HUNDRED FORTY-FOUR THOUSAND were sealed.

NOTE: The fact that the Angel with God's Seal, together with His corps of angels, has sealed 144,000 Jews further disproves the claim of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (1914) that their founding elder, the late Felix Y. Manalo, was the fulfilment of Revelation 7v2.

Let us now apply, by process of substitution, all of the above-stated biblical facts concerning The Christ with the vision of John in Revelation 7:2:

(Revelation 7:1-3 with evangelical comparison concerning The Christ Yeshua)

After these things I saw four angels (Angels as reapers and gatherers-Mat.13:39-40/24:30-31) standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind (spoken Word of Christ-Jn. 12:48) should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel (The Christ being The Angel of God’s Presence-Isa. 63:9 / Jn. 14:8-9) ascending from the east (the return of The Christ – from the east just like lightning-Mat. 24:27), having the seal of the living God (God set His Seal on Christ-Jn. 6:27/Mat. 28:18). And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels (same Wind of destruction and judgment) to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3 saying, “Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we (The Lord's disciples) have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads."

This presentation of Revelation 7v2-3 pointing to The Messiah as the other Angel with God's Seal is further cemented by the remaining verses (verses 9-17) that talk about the Gentile multitude "of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues" who also receive salvation, as well as those who are in white robes who "are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple."

To sum it up, the vision of Apostle John in the 7th chapter of Revelation is about the salvation of The Christ on His return. This is not about the First World War as claimed by a religious cult the Iglesia Ni Cristo (1914).

The Lord Yeshua-Christos is undeniably the envisioned OTHER ANGEL in Revelation 7:2-3 since He is the only ANGEL (or Messenger/Representative) WITH THE SEAL OF GOD (Isaiah 63:9; John 6:27) who will come from the EAST (Mat 24:27) on His second coming.
